Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Master Carpenter specializing in residential wood framing to lead and execute structural framing on custom homes, remodels, and multi-unit residential projects.
This role is for a top-tier professional who can independently interpret plans, lead a crew, and deliver structurally sound, code-compliant framing at a high production pace.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Framing Execution
Perform and oversee all aspects of residential framing:
Floor systems (joists, beams, subfloor)
Wall framing (layout, shear walls, openings)
Roof systems (rafters, trusses, hips/valleys)
Accurately layout from blueprints with minimal supervision
Ensure all framing meets structural plans and local building codes
Layout & Plan Interpretation
Read and interpret:
Structural drawings
Architectural plans
Details and sections
Perform precise layout for walls, openings, and elevations
Identify and correct plan discrepancies in the field
Leadership & Crew Management
Lead and supervise framing crews (2–6+ carpenters)
Delegate tasks and maintain workflow efficiency
Train and mentor journeymen and apprentices
Enforce jobsite safety standards
Quality Control & Production
Maintain tight tolerances (plumb, level, square)
Deliver framing that passes inspection the first time
Meet or exceed production schedules
Minimize material waste and rework
Qualifications
Required Experience
8–15+ years of residential framing experience
Proven experience as a lead carpenter or foreman
Extensive knowledge of wood framing methods and sequencing
Technical Skills
Blueprint and layout mastery
Strong understanding of:
Load paths and structural integrity
Residential building codes (IRC)
Ability to frame complex roof systems and custom structures
Tools & Equipment
Proficient with all standard carpentry tools:
Circular saw, miter saw, framing nailers, lasers
Must have own hand tools and reliable transportation
Work Environment & Expectations
Fast-paced residential construction environment
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor daily
Strong work ethic, reliability, and leadership presence required
