WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
I will be the Mechanical Engineer investigating and solving plant reliability issues. This position will also support maintenance teams in the rationalization, planning, and scheduling of maintenance activities to drive improved sustainable plant reliability in a manner consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Objectives (VMVO).
Responsibilities:
• Reports directly to the Performance Manager
• Plan, schedule, & direct area engineering functions.
• Participate in decisions pertaining to equipment requirements for line uptime.
• Develop capital cost, design, and installation plans for new equipment. Recommend equipment replacement to improve operations & reduce costs.
• Secure required permits from governmental agencies for new equipment installations.
• Implementation of approved capital programs within budget and schedule plans.
• Participation on Equipment Safety Inspections and in the company SMAT program.
• Supports maintenance & plant operations as needed.
• Responsible for the administration of plant projects, AR and GACT.
• Assist in the Corporate Energy Program.
• Coordination of utility projects.
• Manages local applications for tax exemption certificates.
• Maintains, develops, collects, and enters data in computer systems.
• Support continuous improvement projects and teams to drive rapid results. Interact with site Senior Management to drive improvements.
• Record, report, and post targeted areas of improvement opportunities using a visual management board.
• Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline; or equivalent training and experience to have comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, and regulations associated with fundamental mechanical engineering principles may be substituted for a degree.
• Experience with the sciences of heat transfer and flow of solids, liquids, and powder.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
• Must be able to design experiments and provide statistical analysis of those trials as to effectiveness.
• Flexible and open-minded with good written and oral communication.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of, or ability to understand operational excellence principles and tools, such as 5S, SMED, Kaizen, Six Sigma green belt, and TPM.
• Strong computer skills, excellent time management, analytical, and flexibility in adapting to changing situations and business conditions.
• CAD or AutoCAD skills and or working knowledge of process engineering software.
• Ability to diagnose and prioritize opportunities in areas of savings, throughput improvement, and yield improvement.
