Employment Opportunity

The recently appointed Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner is seeking a high performing media and communications expert to join his office in Melbourne.

This is an opportunity to join a small team supporting the Anti-Slavery Commissioner in his role combatting modern slavery in Australia and globally.

A function of the Commissioner's role is conducting education and community awareness initiatives relating to modern slavery, disseminating information relating to modern slavery and promoting compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018.

The person employed would work closely with the Commissioner and his staff on a range of media and communications related duties, including:

Drafting media releases;

Managing the Commissioner's social media accounts and website;

Editing publications and reports;

Assisting with speech writing;

Liaising with media outlets; and

Providing communications advice and guidance.

As this is a new position in the recently established office of the Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner the person filling this position would have an opportunity to develop the role over time in response to the needs of the Commissioner and the office.

The ideal candidate will have:

Superior written communication skills and an ability to articulate complex information in an accessible and engaging way.

The ability to work effectively in high pressure environments with tight timeframes and work flexibly across a small team.

The ability to work independently and think creatively.

The ability to liaise widely and develop productive working relationships with stakeholders.

Excellent judgment, common sense and discretion.

The position is based in Melbourne and you would be required to work from an office in the CBD, with some scope for working from home.

Current APS employees are encouraged to apply, with the potential to s26 transfer into the role.
