About the role

This role sits within the NSW Early Learning Commission which began operation as the independent regulator for early childhood education and care (ECEC) in New South Wales on 1 December 2025. We are responsible for regulating over 6,000 ECEC services across NSW to ensure they meet stringent standards of safety, quality and compliance. We oversee these services to protect children’s health, safety and development through rigorous, ongoing assessments and compliance monitoring.

As the Media Liaison Officer, you will play a key role in managing NSW Early Learning Commission’s strategic engagement with the media. You will work closely with executives, senior staff and Ministerial offices to develop and implement effective media strategies, coordinate timely responses to media enquiries and preparing holding statements during critical incidents. You will also:

Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, journalists and media outlets.
Monitor and manage media risk and provide timely advice to mitigate issues
Provide media support to internal stakeholders including drafting talking points, holding statements and providing media coaching.

About you
You bring solid experience in media, journalism or public relations, with a proven ability to collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful news media strategies.

You will also demonstrate:
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage time-sensitive and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and quality of media content.

Essential requirements of the role

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrated relevant equivalent professional experience and training.
Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
Willingness and ability to work a work schedule that requires out of hours work, and during holiday periods.
Proven success developing media strategies, drafting media releases, holding statements and liaising directly with mainstream journalists on story development, ideally within a public, private sector or NGO setting
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of early childhood education and care.
