The best scenario is if the physician has completed steps 1 and step 2 of the USMLE (US Medical Licensing Examination. The ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) is like the CGFNS visa screen for nurses. The physician can apply for ECFMG once they pass steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE.
We would like to understand if the candidates have progressed to step 2 of the USMLE and if they have applied for ECFMG. Physicians will typically list this on their resumes.

Step 1: Educational and Medical Licensing Requirements
Before a foreign physician can apply for an H-1Bvisa.they must meet educational and licensing requirements:
Medical Degree (MBBS, MD, or Equivalent)
The physician must have completed a medica l degree from a recognized institution outside the U.S.
ECFMG Certification (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates)
ECFMG certifies that the physician's medica l education meets U.S. standards.
Required for physicians seekingresidency training in the U.S.
IMGs must pass USMLE Steps 1 and 2 to obtain ECFMG certification.
Step 2: USMLE Exam Requirements
The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a multi-step exam that IMGs must pass to be eligible for medical practice in the U.S.
1.USMLE Step 1 - Basic medical sciences.
USMLE Step 2 CK (Clinical Knowledge) - Assesses the ability to apply medical knowledge and clinical science. 3.USMLE Step 3 - Required for full medical licensure but not alwaysnecessary for an H-1B visa. Some states may require
it for independent practice.
Residency Requirement: IMGs usually take USMLE Steps 1 and 2 and enter a U.S. residency program under a J-1 or H-1B visa. Step 3 is often taken during or afterresidency.
