About the opportunity
Do you want to work in a busy Anatomical Pathology laboratory and help patients and clinicians access clinical trials and research? A Technical Officer position is available in Tissue Pathology to support the lab in meeting increasing clinical trial and research demands. Based in the ICPMR at Westmead, you'll be working in a friendly team of 100 medical and non-medical personnel who provide services to WSLHD, Sydney Metro and Regional & Remote NSW.

What you'll be doing
The Laboratory Research Support Officer (TO) will manage research and clinical trial tissue release requests and research specimen testing. They are responsible for performing all laboratory tasks associated with the release of material for research/clinical trials including and not limited to receipt and retrieval of specimens and/or specimen derivatives, case accessioning and data entry, billing, routine AP bench work (embedding, microtomy, staining), record keeping and communicating with stakeholders.
They are expected to have high level communication, organizational and record keeping skills. They must have a sound understanding of specimen management, tissue pathology workflows, test requirements and procedures with an appreciation of NPAAC and accreditation requirements.

Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to Anatomical Pathology
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a diagnostic Anatomical Pathology laboratory, including performing routine bench work, handling precious irreplaceable tissue samples and complying with departmental procedures
Demonstrable understanding of the importance of specimen tracking and consent requirements in the context of the role
Demonstrated ability to work in a team and autonomously to deliver services within clinically appropriate timeframes
Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage time and competing priorities
Well-developed interpersonal skills and proven effective oral and written English communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Strong attention to detail with demonstrable trouble shooting skills
Proven computer literacy skills in laboratory information systems, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel
