VMware Cloud (VMC), a VMware offering, manages Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) that allows customers to bring their on-prem workloads to the cloud. This opportunity is to join the Cloud Storage Services team, and work with a highly talented, dynamic engineers to build storage features for various cloud providers.
We are seeking a backend developer, for working on design and development of our cloud service features. You will closely work with other engineers and product manager to understand the requirements and deliver storage centric features in VMC’s SaaS layer.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
• You will be expected to become skilful in VMware’s cloud storage stack and deliver high quality features in a timely manner.
• You will be evaluated based on the quality, scale and performance of your solution. Sense of ownership, self-motivation, effective collaboration with other teams will be a criteria for evaluation.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
• You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science/computer engineering.
• You care about cloud service development, microservices and RESTful API design.
• You will contribute to production-grade backend development using Java SpringBoot and VMware’s cloud infrastructure services.
• You will debug customer issues, implement bug fixes using your analytical skills.
• You will perform on-call duties to troubleshoot and resolve production incidents.

This position reports to Onkar Deshpande, Engineering Manager at VMware, an experienced software engineer and manager. The team has a mix of highly skilled senior and junior engineers working as a close-knit group. The team thrives in a collaborative environment and has a track record of delivering series of complex storage features since the inception of the product. Leadership and the team work towards maintaining a culture of innovation, enabling career growth opportunities. The team maintains inclusiveness, honesty, transparency and openness. Due to the strong mentorship and ownership model, several junior engineers have been promoted to senior roles.
