Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and engaging Wellness Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will develop and implement wellness programs aimed at promoting physical, mental, and emotional health within our community. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and a passion for teaching healthy habits. This position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact by fostering well-being through educational activities, interactive sessions, and supportive guidance.

Key Responsibilities

Youth Mentorship & Relationship Development

Provide consistent, individualized mentorship to assigned youth
Build trusting relationships grounded in respect, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice
Support the development of social skills, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships
Facilitate individual and group sessions focused on life skills, identity, and interpersonal development
Cultural Engagement & Community Connection

Facilitate and/or organize culturally relevant programming and activities
Build relationships with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural service providers
Coordinate access to community-based cultural services, including accompanying youth to programs
Support youth in exploring identity, belonging, and cultural connection
Life Skills & Transition Readiness

Support development of practical life skills, including:
Employment readiness (e.g., certifications such as First Aid, CPR, Food Handler)
Education engagement and school success
Liaise with schools, training providers, and community organizations as appropriate
Therapeutic Milieu & Staff Support

Collaborate with Healing Homes Supervisors to maintain a trauma-informed environment
Provide mentorship and informal training to staff on relational practice and crisis intervention
Contribute to consistent, strength-based care practices
Clinical Collaboration & Support

Consult with clinical staff regarding youth mental health needs
Assist in preparing youth for psychiatric appointments
Support administration of select clinical measures under supervision
Family & Natural Support Engagement

Support youth in maintaining relationships with family and natural supports
Participate in or facilitate family engagement activities
Student Mentorship & Capacity Building

Mentor practicum students (e.g., Youth Care Workers, Social Service Workers)
Model best practices in culturally responsive, trauma-informed care
Documentation, Data & Reporting

Maintain accurate and timely case notes in iStedy
Contribute to program and supervisory reports
Track key performance indicators related to mentorship outcomes
Support data collection for program evaluation and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Education

Diploma in Youth Care Work, Social Services, Human Services, or related field (minimum two-year program)
Training in trauma-informed practice strongly preferred
Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience working with youth in care or vulnerable populations
Experience in mentorship, life skills development, or group facilitation
Experience working with Indigenous youth, families, and communities strongly preferred
Skills & Competencies

Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Understanding of trauma-informed and strength-based approaches
Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices, or willingness to learn
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Experience with case management systems (e.g., iStedy) is an asset
Additional Assets

Indigenous identity and/or lived experience is a strong asset
Experience with community agencies and service coordination
Working Conditions

Work takes place in Healing Homes and community settings
Evening and weekend work may be required
Transportation of youth is required (valid driver’s license preferred, if applicable)
