Join our senior midwifery leadership team as a Midwife Educator, helping to shape the future of midwifery excellence across the Waikato Region.

About the Role

Are you a visionary midwifery leader with a passion for professional development, equity, and clinical innovation?

This multidimensional leadership role works closely with the Chief Midwife and contributes to the advancement of maternity services through education, research, and quality improvement. As Midwife Educator, you will support both individual professional growth and team-wide interdisciplinary development, including meaningful engagement with Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs).

As a valued member of the midwifery professional development team, you will contribute to a dynamic portfolio that champions workforce resilience and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities may shift to reflect team strengths and service needs which include:

Developing and delivering midwifery education aligned with Midwifery Council Te Tatau o te Whare Kahu standards.
Coordinating clinical placements and supporting undergraduate orientation across the Waikato Region.
Leading key workforce programmes, including the Midwifery First Year of Practice (MFYP) and the Quality Leadership Programme (QLP).
Promoting best practice through research engagement, case reviews, and performance improvement initiatives.
Advocating for postgraduate study pathways and facilitating access to educational opportunities.
A close working relationship with the clinical coach team is central to this role, fostering collaborative support for new graduates, midwives in transition, and evolving education priorities.

Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital in Hamilton and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. With around 722 inpatient beds, 22 operating theatres, and a dedicated outpatient clinic and procedure centre, Waikato Hospital provides comprehensive hospital services, including radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. About you

You’ll bring advanced midwifery expertise and demonstrated leadership, including:

Registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand.
Current Annual Practising Certificate (no conditions).
Five years clinical midwifery experience, with at least two years in a role relevant to education.
Achievement of Leadership Level within the Midwifery Quality and Leadership Programme.
Relevant postgraduate study (completed or in progress).
Proven contributions to clinical education, innovation, or research.

Your ability to foster professional growth, inspire evidence-based practice, and lead inclusive, learner-focused education initiatives will be central to your impact as Midwife Educator.
