Job Description

ALL APPLICANTS SHOULD SUBMIT A RESUME AND COVER LETTER (one upload)

Chicago Jesuit Academy (CJA) is a tuition-free Catholic elementary and middle school for young women and men from resilient communities impacted by historical disinvestment. Distinguished by a dedicated faculty and staff, low student-teacher ratios, an extended academic day and a robust College & Career Persistence program, CJA fosters student growth and supports alumni’s continued success in high school, post-secondary education and the start of their careers as they pursue positions of community leadership.

CJA helps students develop as young women and men who are open to growth, religious, seeking intellectual excellence, loving and committed to doing justice in the service of others, in accord with the Jesuit mission and tradition. The school’s success in its mission is made possible by the disciplined commitments of our students, families, faculty, staff, volunteers and benefactors.

Talented people who wish to be employed by CJA must demonstrate a past and continued commitment to academic excellence, professional development and the Jesuit ideal of being a person for others. Strong candidates are disciplined workers, compassionate listeners and tireless advocates for the young people they serve. Most importantly, they recognize that CJA will ask them to approach their work as a vocation and make substantial contributions of their time and talents in the service of CJA’s students, alumni and families.

The Mission & Ministry Coach reports to the Director of Mission & Ministry and is responsible for:
• Refining the curriculum for religious instruction for all grades and monitoring the effectiveness of that instruction at each grade level to ensure all students have age-appropriate understandings of the foundational values and practices at CJA, such as our Graduate-at-Graduation values and the praying of the Examen.
• Planning, leading and supporting grade-level student retreats in collaboration with each grade level’s teachers.
• Planning, leading and supporting annual celebrations of the Mass, weekly small-group faith sharing sessions and Friday chapel services, which are often led by a specific grade-level section.
• Planning, leading and supporting retreats for CJA’s faculty and staff as well as Ignatian Formation sessions that provide instruction about Ignatian spirituality and our way of proceeding at CJA.
• Building strong relationships with students, families, teachers and staff at CJA so as to help them develop their unique gifts and see how they are called to use their gifts in the service of others.
• Supporting students across all grade levels when they need space and time to refocus and reflect in order to then return successfully to their classrooms to engage with their teachers and classmates in any necessary repair work.
• Working closely with the Head of School, Directors of Curriculum & Instruction, Director of Programs, other Instructional Coaches and Director of Mission & Ministry to support a common vision of the school’s way of proceeding – especially when students, families, faculty or staff are experiencing difficult moments of struggle.

Strong candidates will have proven interpersonal, leadership and management skills which result in strong relationships with a broad variety of people. Excellent organizational skills are necessary for success in this job. The successful candidate will have an appreciation of the Roman Catholic faith, the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm and an education that forms the whole person – cura personalis in the Jesuit tradition – to be a person for others.
