Seeking Caring and Reliable House Help for Indian Family in King City

We are a warm and welcoming Indian family of five residing in King City, Ontario, and we are looking for a kind and dependable individual to join our household as a full-time House Help. If you are organized, enjoy cooking delicious Indian vegetarian meals, and have a genuine care for family well-being, we would love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

• Culinary Support: Preparing delicious and nutritious Indian vegetarian meals for our family of five on a daily basis. We appreciate someone who is familiar with a variety of Indian dishes.

• Home Care: Maintaining a clean, tidy, and organized home environment. This includes general cleaning tasks, tidying up, laundry, and ensuring the house is well-maintained.

• Elder Care Support: Providing occasional assistance to our elderly mother, specifically with transportation to and from her once-a-month hospital appointments.

• Child Transportation: Safely transporting our two children to and from school and their extracurricular activities. A car will be provided for these duties.

• Grocery Management: Handling grocery shopping to ensure the household is well-stocked with necessary food items and supplies.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Prior experience in a similar role is preferred.

• Excellent knowledge of Indian vegetarian cuisine.

• Ability to manage household tasks efficiently and independently.

• A valid Ontario driver's license and a clean driving record are essential.

• Must be reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• A genuine love for children and patience when interacting with them.

• Respectful and considerate towards all family members.

Compensation and Work Schedule:

• Full-time position with competitive pay commensurate with experience.

• Standard full-time hours, with some flexibility required based on the children's schedules and appointments.

Full-Time One Year Contract Position

Salary: $45,510 - $5+,000

The opportunity: Maamwesying is inviting applications for a highly skilled Project Helper/Oshkaabewis to provide cultural, facilitation and administrative support to the Coordinator (or Lead Consultant) in the area of cultural competency and safety (Maamwesying Ontario Health Team – MOHT). The Project Helper/Oshkaabewis, will be reporting under the general direction of the Maamwesying Ontario Health Team Cultural Competency and Safety (MOHTCCS) Program Consultant.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of two (2) years diploma from an Indigenous Institute or an accredited college

• Knowledge and appreciation of the unique history, cultures, and rights of Indigenous People of Canada

• Minimum of two (2) years experience working within Indigenous communities

• Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

• Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines with minimal supervision

• Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate circles with the appropriate protocols

• Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft 365 software (e.g., Work, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Google Drive is required

• Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of Indigenous cultural values and traditions, as well as an interest in Indigenous Health

• Must have a valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle

• Ability to travel across Northeastern Ontario as needed

• Ability to speak Ojibway language is an asset

• Successful criminal records check is required

• Demonstrated ability to work flexible hours as required

Duties:

• Provide, research and/or connect MOHTCCS team with culture and language resources that are Indigenous specific

• Be able to plan, prepare and facilitate a circle for a variety of people in both in person and virtual environments

• Draft, organize and/or assist with a variety of documents, including health care education material, reports, spreadsheets, letters, memos or briefing notes in an accurate and professional format

• Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, other departments, and the general public

• Organize events or sessions, both in-person or virtual, for MOHTCCS related work that may involve coordinating attendees list, sending out virtual meeting links, booking of facilities, equipment, catering, travel arrangements, reports, mail outs, evaluation, etc.

• Prepare, organize and attend in-person and virtual meetings. Prepare and distribute agenda packages and minutes. Transcribe minutes of meetings

• Coordinate travel arrangements, flight bookings, hotel reservations, conference registrations, car rentals, honorariums as needed for MOHTCCS related projects and activities

What to expect? Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time to time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar may occur.
