Wizard 4x4 is a family-owned and operated 4x4 accessories business based in Fyshwick, ACT. The business supplies and installs a range of 4x4 vehicle products and accessories, including canopies, trays, roof racks, awnings, bull bars, tow bars, drawer systems, lighting products, ute lids and other vehicle accessories.
As part of its workshop operations, Wizard 4x4 requires a skilled and experienced MotorMechanic to support the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, testing and safe preparation of customer vehicles, including 4WDs, utility vehicles and light motor vehicles.
About the Position
The Motor Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, testing and repairing light motor vehicles and their mechanical components, including engines, transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems.
The role is based in Wizard 4x4’s vehicle workshop and supports the business by ensuring that vehicles are mechanically inspected, repaired, adjusted and tested before, during and after workshop work.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
Maintaining, testing and repairing light motor vehicles, including 4WDs and utility vehicles, and their mechanical components such as engines, transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems.
Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in light vehicles and related components.
Inspecting vehicles before and after workshop work to identify mechanical faults, safety issues and required repair work.
Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, suspension components, braking systems and other mechanical parts.
Checking, repairing and replacing worn, defective or damaged parts.
Reassembling mechanical components and vehicle systems after repair, adjustment or installation-related work.
Performing scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrications, filter replacements, tune-ups and general mechanical servicing.
Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after repair to ensure proper performance, safe operation and compliance with workshop standards.
Diagnosing and testing vehicle systems and components using computers, diagnostic scanners and other workshop equipment.
Referring to manufacturer service manuals, technical specifications, repair procedures, fitment instructions and job cards as required.
Inspecting vehicles and detailing work required to achieve a safe and roadworthy operating condition.
Ensuring vehicle systems affected by workshop or 4x4 fit-out work are safely inspected, removed, refitted, adjusted and tested.
Maintaining accurate job cards, inspection records, service records and workshop documentation.
Complying with workplace health and safety requirements and safe workshop procedures.
Supporting 4x4 vehicle fit-out work only where mechanical inspection, removal, repair, refitting, adjustment or testing of vehicle components is required.
Skills and Experience Required
Applicants must have:
AQF Certificate III, including at least two years of on-the-job training, AQF Certificate IV, or at least three years of relevant experience as a motor mechanic.
Experience in maintaining, testing and repairing light motor vehicles.
Experience in diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in petrol and/or diesel light vehicles.
Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, suspension, steering and braking systems.
Ability to dismantle, repair, replace, reassemble, test and adjust mechanical components.
Ability to use diagnostic scanners, computers, workshop tools and mechanical testing equipment.
Ability to read and interpret manufacturer service manuals, technical specifications, repair procedures and job cards.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small workshop team.
Current driver's licence.
Desirable Skills
Experience working with 4WDs, utility vehicles, commercial light vehicles or off-road vehicles.
Experience conducting pre-work and post-work vehicle inspections.
Basic auto electrical diagnostic experience.
Experience with suspension, steering, braking and underbody components commonly affected by 4x4 vehicle fit-out work.
Experience in a workshop environment involving 4x4 vehicles or vehicle modifications.
