Role & Responsibilities
Ø Ensure the integrity, high availability, security and performance of SQL databases. Perform the duties for daily maintenance, monitoring, performance analysis, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and user assistance required of all database environments.
Ø The DBA will work with a crosssection of internal IT organizations, including developers, outside consultants and system administrators.
Ø The DBA will participate in Information Technology and Business application projects as the primary database administrator throughout project development lifecycle. Essential Functions Strategy & Planning Enforce corporate data policies, such as backup/recovery, security and database maintenance routines and schedules. Strategic database design, planning and execution with product and application owners.
Ø Plan, and schedule the installation and testing of new products and improvements to current systems, such as the installation of new databases and tools.
Ø Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure. Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems and technologies to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management.
Ø Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements. Analyze, consolidate, and tune database for optimal efficiency.
Ø Perform capacity planning including allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements. Acquisition & Deployment Provide technical specifications for application enhancements. Participate in application customizations and extensions. Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, tools, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Operational Management Performance monitoring and tuning of development, test and production environments including identification and tuning of poor performing application code and/or database configuration.
Ø Identify and automate regular database and application maintenance tasks and recommendations to project team for the same.
Ø Monitor the systems development activities as they relate to the database development effort. Work with Developers, System and Network administrators in a multinational environment to support and improve system performance and stability. Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to successfully accomplish a project. Create schemas, tables, procedures, permissions and indexes. Monitor systems and platforms for availability. Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover. Restore and recover corrupted databases. Install and test upgrades and patches. Implement security and encryption.
Ø Should be flexible to work in shifts (provide 24/7 support layout). Work with vendor technical support on technical issues.
Ø Develop documentation, white papers and presentations to all levels.
Ø Conduct T- SQL Code Reviews to ensure coding standards, best practices and avoid potential performance issues.
Ø Work on Writing custom stored procedures, t-sql queries, PowerShell scripts, views, and triggers based on requirements for DB maintenance and automate tasks.
Ø Work on writing technical and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) documentation.
Ø Join bridge calls to troubleshoot and fix P1(SEV1) and P2 (SEV2) incidents.
Ø Work on performance tuning like provide suggestions to create indexes and tune stored procedures.
Ø Troubleshoot recurring problems and fix them permanently.
Ø Conduct DB DR Drill activity, ensure to bring the DR site online if any outage at Primary site.
