Job Description

Please note that the original job title of this position is a Data Engineer. Should you be the successful individual you will be offered this role under the title of a "Data Engineer".

Do you want to create a better world for animals? At the RSPCA, we believe all animals deserve kindness and respect. We work for the benefit of every animal – as well as pets, that includes farmed animals, wildlife, and animals used in science. Choose a career with us and make a difference for every kind.

We are excited to share another great opportunity at RSPCA. We are specifically looking for a Mulesoft API Developer to join as part of the Data Engineering role within the IT department. We have brand new Mulesoft API Platform. All the hard work has been done in terms of set up and configuration and we are now ready to move into the new world of API led connectivity through the creation of modern API's.

This is a new role for us in the Society and will be responsible for the development, support, administration and documentation of our API services that will forge seamless integration between the Society's enterprise level applications and partners. Working collaboratively across the business you will deliver changes and new data structures to support the work of the Systems Development and Business Intelligence teams as well as providing technical support for business as usual requests relating to the Society's enterprise API's services.

We know the ways of working are evolving so whilst we are offering this role as a hybrid opportunity trips to our hub will be at key times when the team comes together for core collaboration - this could be as little as once per month.

Are you ready to make a difference?

It's an exciting time to join us in the decade of our bicentenary as we focus on our Strategy to 2030 . The RSPCA works 365 days a year, rescuing all animals of all types from abuse, neglect, and injury.

Here's some of the key work you'll be doing:
• Work with the Mulesoft API platform to facilitate new implementations of the societies API services.
• Design, implement, and maintain complex data engineering solutions to acquire and prepare data.
• Create and maintain data pipelines to connect data within and between data stores, applications and organisations.
• Monitor cross integration performance statistics by creating reports and customising OOTB solutions on various platforms.
• Identify and investigate complex problems/issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Plan your own data modeling and design activities, selecting appropriate techniques and the correct level of detail for meeting assigned objectives.
• Provide key advice and guidance to others using the data structures and associated components.
• Implement physical database designs to support transactional data requirements for performance and availability.
• Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of database and data warehouse concepts, design principles, architectures, software and facilities.
• Strong background in API Development & Management on the Mulesoft API Platform.
• You'll have established experience in a Data Engineering (or equivalent) role
• Strong SQL scripting capability and practical experience of databases
• Data modeling skills
• Experience of applying data quality standards
• Worked with clients to establish data pipeline requirements

In addition
• A great communicator - Are you able to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences?
• Can you demonstrate an awareness of risk and take an analytical approach to work?
• Share knowledge and experience in your own specialism to help develop others.
• Confidence in your ability to make decisions which influence the success of projects and team objectives.

So if you thrive in an environment where you facilitate collaboration between stakeholders who share common objectives - we'd love to hear from you!

We are really lucky that some of our roles attract a high level of interest and for this reason we review applications as they are received, unfortunately on some occasions this means roles may close earlier than advertised; so early submissions are highly recommended. We are unable to accept applications past the close date.

We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible

We recognise that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to achieving our core mission. For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA.

Should you need any support with your application or interview process please contact resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk

Our mission is to ensure animals have a good life by rescuing and caring for those in need, by advocating on behalf of all animals and by inspiring everyone to treat them with compassion and respect
