The Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) is the largest museum in western Canada and one of the top museums in Canada. Located in the Arts District in downtown Edmonton, we collect, preserve, research, interpret, and exhibit objects and specimens related to the heritage of Alberta's people and natural environment.

Are you passionate about storytelling, education, and creating unforgettable experiences for visitors of all ages? We’re looking for an enthusiastic Museum Interpreter to join our team and bring our programs to life!

Reporting to the Learning Coordinator and guided by the Head of Learning, this position plays a key role in delivering, coordinating, and implementing both summer camps and public drop-in programs to a variety of audiences who visit this summer.

The Museum Interpreter delivers RAM public, school, and special programs, ensuring a high-quality and engaging experience for all visitors.

As a Museum Interpreter, you'll:


Use creative interpretive techniques like storytelling, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to engage diverse audiences and make learning fun.
Lead interactive activities, tours, and live presentations while tailoring content to match visitors’ interests and learning styles.
Deliver outstanding customer service by fostering curiosity, answering questions, and creating a positive, welcoming atmosphere.
Collaborate with your team to ensure smooth program delivery, managing everything from logistics to material prep, while keeping things running seamlessly.
Play a key role in shaping future programs by gathering visitor feedback and participating in team debriefs to help us improve and grow.

Qualifications
Requirements:

Two-year diploma in Interpretation, Museum Education, Recreation Administration, Early childhood development or related field; no experience required; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:


1 year of education for 1 year of experience
1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets:


Bilingual in written and spoken French and English is an asset.
Minimum of one year of experience in museum program delivery or other interpretive program delivery, to various ages, is preferred.
Knowledge of Alberta's human and natural heritage is an asset.
Knowledge of Alberta Education curriculum is an asset.
Ability to interpret diverse topics to develop programs for different audiences.
Strong oral and written communication skills; including ability to interact effectively with a range of audiences and communicate complex concepts in user-appropriate language.
Presentation, public speaking and facilitation skills.
Competent in Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, database and Internet skills.
Equivalency: Directly related experience considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education.
