Job Description
We are seeking a skilled MySQL Database Administrator (DBA) with 3+ years of hands-on experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of MySQL databases to ensure high performance, security, and availability. You will work closely with development and infrastructure teams to design, implement, and support database solutions for various applications and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain MySQL databases, ensuring optimal performance, high availability, and security.- Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and apply optimizations for efficient resource utilization and query performance.- Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard database integrity and minimize downtime.- Database Security: Apply database security best practices, including user access controls, encryption, and auditing.- Database Design & Optimization: Work with developers to design and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexes to support application needs.- Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems, data corruption, and connectivity issues.- Upgrades and Patching: Plan and execute MySQL database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime and system impact.- Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts for database maintenance, monitoring, and reporting tasks.- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation for database configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.- Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams (development, system administrators, network engineers) to support database requirements for applications, services, and systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience working as a MySQL DBA in a production environment.- Technical Skills:- Expertise in MySQL database administration, including version 5.x and 8.x.- Strong knowledge of SQL, query optimization, and indexing strategies.- Experience with MySQL replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions (e.g., MySQL Group Replication, Galera).- Proficiency in database backup, recovery, and restore procedures.- Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Bash scripts, cron jobs).- Solid understanding of database security, including access controls, encryption, and patch management.- Experience with MySQL monitoring tools (e.g., Percona Monitoring and Management, MySQL Enterprise Monitor).- Operating Systems: Experience with Linux and/or Windows server environments.- Tools & Technologies: Familiarity with MySQL Workbench, phpMyAdmin, or similar tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) and hybrid database architectures.- Certification in MySQL (e.g., Oracle Certified MySQL Database Administrator) is a plus.
