Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Wage: Wage will be aligned with the applicable provincial collective agreement for LPNs and adjusted based on relevant nursing experience and total nursing hours.
Shifts: Monday to Friday, (8:30am - 4:30pm, depending on program needs and scheduling)

Position Overview
The Naloxone Education Nurse is a key member of the Risk Reduction Team at Northreach Society, contributing to the full continuum of care for individuals experiencing homelessness, at risk of overdose or requiring additional health support. Guided by a risk reduction philosophy, this role focuses on distributing naloxone kits, providing overdose prevention education, and supporting individuals at risk. The position emphasizes injury prevention, health and wellness promotion, and risk reduction strategies related to substance use.
This role involves traveling to various sites across the City of Grande Prairie, with opportunities to engage in outreach and education in communities throughout Alberta’s North Zone.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Establish therapeutic, professional relationships with clients and community members using a non‑judgmental, risk reduction, and trauma‑informed approach.
Provide evidence‑informed health education on overdose prevention, ****** poisoning recognition, emergency response, and safe naloxone administration.
Distribute naloxone kits in accordance with organizational protocols, ensuring clients understand proper use and follow‑up care.
Deliver outreach education and naloxone distribution to diverse populations, including rural and remote communities, Indigenous communities, and Métis Settlements, as requested and appropriate.
Promote substance use prevention, risk reduction approaches, treatment options, and recovery‑oriented supports through health education and client‑focused care.
Provide education and nursing support related to STBBIs, including prevention, testing pathways, and treatment navigation, within scope of practice.
Apply clinical judgment to identify clients requiring further assessment or intervention and facilitate timely referrals and warm handoffs to health care, social services, or emergency supports.
Collaborate with community members, health professionals, and partner organizations to support coordinated, client‑centered care and identify outreach or education opportunities.
Participate in community engagement activities, awareness events, planning sessions, and committees as delegated and within role scope.
Administer post‑education evaluation tools and contribute to quality improvement through documentation and feedback.
Maintain client confidentiality and complete accurate, timely documentation of client interactions and supports provided, in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
Manage naloxone inventory, monitor kit distribution, and complete required documentation and reporting in line with program and professional standards.
Maintain current knowledge of overdose prevention, risk reduction, public health trends, and best practices through ongoing professional development.
Support interdisciplinary team members and organizational initiatives while maintaining professional nursing accountability and boundaries.
Required Qualifications:
LPN - Active registration with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA)
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)
Additional Requirements:
Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Additional Qualifications:
Valid Class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to travel throughout the North Zone for outreach and community engagement.
Proven experience in teaching and facilitating both small and large groups.
Experience working with vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, *** work, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and Indigenous peoples.
Background in risk reduction, addictions, or community health (asset).
Strong understanding and advocacy for safer *** and safer drug-use practices.
Knowledge of STBBI prevention and support services preferred.
Familiarity with HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis, and other STBBIs.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, deliver engaging education sessions, and respond confidently in crisis situations.
