Job Description
Auckland based (either Highbrook or Wiri locations)
Lead people. Anchor performance. Bring technical credibility.
Korero mo te turanga - About the role
Automation is at the heart of NZ Post's network. Conveyors moving at pace, parcels flowing through systems, machines doing exactly what they're meant to do so Kiwis get what matters, on time.
Behind that reliability is a national team of engineers and technicians, and the leadership that sets direction, builds confidence, and keeps things steady. That's where you come in.
As National Maintenance Manager, you'll be first and foremost a strong people leader with deep technical grounding. You'll steady the ship, build on solid foundations, and grow a high performing, engaged maintenance function across the country.
This is a role for someone who leads calmly, develops capability deliberately, and creates the conditions for teams to do their best work. You'll set clear standards, bring consistency across sites, and ensure our automated network is maintained safely, reliably, and sustainably.
You'll take accountability for the national maintenance strategy for automated material handling systems, balancing long-term improvement with the day-to-day realities of a live operational network.
You'll do that by:
Leading, coaching and developing a national team of engineers and technicians, creating a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Providing steady, visible leadership that builds confidence, consistency, and trust across multiple sites
Owning and delivering the national maintenance strategy for automated material handling systems, setting clear standards, priorities, and ways of working
Lifting uptime and reliability through effective maintenance planning, data-led decision making, and disciplined root cause analysis (MTBF, MTTR, OEE)
Overseeing planned and unplanned maintenance, ensuring work is completed safely, assets are well managed, and parts and inventory support operational readiness
Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce downtime, improve asset performance, and introduce new technologies where they add value
Partnering closely with Operations, People, Safety & Wellbeing, vendors, and project teams to support upgrades, automation initiatives, and consistent performance nationwide
Mou - About you
You're a calm, credible leader who knows how to lead people through complexity and change. You bring enough technical depth to ask the right questions and make sound decisions, but your real strength is building capable teams and creating stability in fast-moving environments.
You'll also bring:
A degree or trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
Significant experience (typically 10+ years) in engineering or maintenance leadership roles, including multi-site operations
Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain technical teams through change and growth
Strong knowledge of automated systems such as conveyors, robotics, PLC/SCADA, and electromechanical equipments.
Solid capability in maintenance planning, CMMS, reliability engineering, and root cause analysis
A collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence across operational, technical, and corporate teams
A strong safety mindset with experience in production, manufacturing, logistics, or similar environments
Experience with IT or OT back-end systems is an advantage
