In this full-time permanent role (we are also open to flexible working hours and / or part time arrangements for the right candidate), you’ll work as a part of our Retail team from any major capital city in Australia to help us create lasting change for children everywhere.


The National Volunteer Manager will set Save the Children’s national strategy for recruitment, engagement, retention, capability, and compliance across the op shop volunteer network. They enable and guide State Volunteer Managers and Retail Teams to meet targets and deliver a consistent, high‑quality volunteer experience aligned with national priorities. The role requires deep volunteering expertise and strong stakeholder leadership to build cohesive frameworks that drive improvement and consistency nationwide.


You will make a difference by:

Lead a unified national volunteer strategy that aligns recruitment, capability, compliance, and role design with retail and organisational priorities.
Strengthen national recruitment through innovative methods and strong internal and external partnerships to expand our volunteer reach.
Oversee national volunteering policy, best practice, and strategic projects to ensure consistency, continuous improvement, and an evidence‑informed framework.
Partner with State Retail Teams to deliver a consistent, high‑quality volunteer experience across onboarding, training, engagement, and recognition.
Use data and performance insights to strengthen recruitment, retention, and store coverage, supporting retail performance targets.
Ensure national governance and compliance through consistent processes for police checks, induction, and mandatory training to maintain a safe, trusted volunteer environment.

This role requires:

Experience leading or supporting teams in people‑focused environments, with strengths in communication, collaboration, and relationship‑building.
Proven ability to coordinate recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and compliance processes for staff or volunteers.
Skilled in using systems, tools, and data to support workforce consistency, training coordination, and performance tracking.
Demonstrated capability in planning, continuous improvement, and building partnerships that enhance recruitment and engagement outcomes.

Ideally, you will also have a background in volunteer management within retail or purpose‑driven settings, knowledge of digital onboarding systems, experience with supporting national programs with local delivery models, and understanding of safeguarding requirements.
