The role
The purpose of the Natural Perils & Geospatial Manager role will be to lead the end-to-end pricing of the natural peril components of the company’s Home products and to lead the geospatial capability within the broader Pricing function. This includes managing data, pricing algorithms, monitoring and implementation. To be successful in this role, the Natural Perils & Geospatial Manager should have solid technical skills and an ability to lead a technical team.
Ultimately, the Natural Perils & Geospatial Manager will help the Pricing Team manage its key processes to ensure ongoing profitability while minimising financial risks.
What experience you’ll bring
Pricing
To lead and manage end-to-end pricing processes for natural perils (e.g. flood, bushfire, earthquake, etc) including data, modelling, review, implementation, and monitoring
To lead and manage the end-to-end geospatial capability within Pricing including managing the external data update processes, external stakeholder management and exploration of new datasets
Provide thought leadership and quality advice on natural perils pricing strategy, geospatial strategy, risk assessment and other pricing related matters
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the end-to-end pricing process
Understand and communicate the expected impact of pricing changes to GMs, Directors and P&UW Committee
Consider and evaluate alternative data sources and modelling approaches for pricing and/or geospatial solutions
Ensure data used for pricing analysis is robust, accurate and delivered in a timely manner
Consider and evaluate improvements to pricing and geospatial infrastructure as it related to data and processes (e.g. new functionality, alternate software platforms)
Other
Provide pivotal analytical support and leadership within the Pricing Team
Manage and mentor pricing staff
Prepare and effectively present complex papers for presentation to Directors and/or Pricing & Underwriting Committee
Engage/communicate with necessary stakeholders for future pricing changes
Define requirements and manage complex IT changes for Pricing
Create test plans, manage and sign-off testing for business-wide IT changes that impact pricing
Perform other reasonable and relevant activities as requested from time to time to meet operational requirements.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
10+ years general insurance industry experience, preferably within a natural perils pricing function;
Proven analytical and problem-solving capability;
Excellent attention to detail;
Clear understanding of statistical modelling techniques; knowledge of machine learning modelling approaches
Familiarity with data and statistical software packages (e.g. Earnix, Radar/Emblem, Python, SQL) is advantageous; and
Degree qualified in mathematics, statistics, actuarial studies or similar.
