Location: Christchurch (in-person preferred)
Pay: $25–$35 per hour (depending on experience)
Hours: 2 x 2hr sessions per week (after school hours)

About the role
We are looking for a patient, practical tutor to support a Year 13 student with NCEA studies in:
Psychology
Health Education
English
Statistics
This role is a bit different from traditional tutoring.
The student is capable and insightful, but finds it difficult to:
Get started on tasks
Manage time and workload
Stay on track once work feels overwhelming
Avoid overthinking or perfectionism
Your role is to help them start, structure, and complete work — not just explain content.
What you’ll be doing
Help break assignments into small, manageable steps
Support the student to start tasks (even when they feel stuck)
Work alongside them to build confidence and momentum
Use simple structures to support: Essay writing, Reflection tasks, Study planning
Encourage a “done is better than perfect” approach
Who this would suit
This role would be great for someone who is:
Studying Psychology, Education, Health Sciences, or similar
Interested in neurodiversity, mental health, or learning support
Calm, encouraging, and good at explaining things simply
What we’re looking for
Friendly, patient, and reliable
Able to keep things simple and practical
Comfortable supporting a student who may feel stuck or overwhelmed
Able to guide rather than take over
Some familiarity with NCEA is helpful (but not essential)
Bonus (but not required)
Understanding of ADHD / executive functioning differences
Experience with tutoring, mentoring, or working with young people
Confidence supporting writing tasks
Not theright fit if you prefer:
Lecture-style teaching
Expecting students to work independently without support
Focusing heavily on perfection or correctness early on
