Job Description
Responsibilities:
• Clinical Care:
• Diagnosing and treating kidney diseases and disorders, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), glomerular diseases, electrolyte disorders, and hypertension.
• Managing patients requiring dialysis (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis) or kidney transplantation.
• Providing comprehensive care to patients with complex renal conditions.
• Patient Management:
• Conducting thorough medical histories and physical examinations specific to kidney health.
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests such as blood tests, urinalysis, kidney biopsies, and imaging studies (ultrasound, CT scans).
• Developing individualized treatment plans and monitoring patient progress.
• Collaboration and Consultation:
• Consulting with other specialists and healthcare providers to coordinate care for patients with multi-system diseases affecting the kidneys.
• Participating in multidisciplinary teams for the management of patients undergoing dialysis or kidney transplantation.
• Education and Research:
• Educating patients and their families about kidney disease prevention, management, and treatment options.
• Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows in nephrology.
• Participating in clinical research studies to advance knowledge in nephrology and improve patient outcomes.
• Quality Assurance and Administrative Duties:
• Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation of patient care.
• Adhering to regulatory and safety standards in nephrology practice.
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives and committees within healthcare institutions.
Qualifications:
• Medical Degree: Completion of an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
• Residency Training: Completion of a residency program in Internal Medicine followed by a fellowship in Nephrology.
• Board Certification: Certification in Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or equivalent national board.
• Licensure: Valid medical license to practice as a Nephrologist.
• Skills: Expertise in diagnosing and managing kidney diseases, proficiency in performing kidney biopsies and interpreting imaging studies, strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and patient care skills.
• Experience: Several years of post-fellowship clinical experience in nephrology practice
