This position may be scheduled at any of the following sites: Charlton Campus (Hamilton Downtown) Application Dates Opening Date: 20/06/24 Closing Date: 27/06/24 Applications must be received online by 12:00 midnight on the Closing Date Position Description Temporary assignment - approximately 6 months POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director, Professional Practice and Nursing Development, you will provide clinical and educational expertise with a patient-centered & evidence-informed focus to support nursing excellence corporately and across all areas within the Mental Health & Addictions Program. Will support new Graduate Nurses entering the specialty of Mental Health and addictions. Supporting the Mental Health Nursing Resource Team, the Nurse Educator will be responsible for assessing learning needs, and designing, delivering and evaluating educational programs that enhance clinical practice, assist with nursing integration to practice, foster knowledge translation and contribute to high quality patient outcomes. In addition, the Nurse Educator will play an active role in promoting continuous learning, professional development, and service excellence through modelling, coaching and mentoring, as well as engaging staff to create an environment that promotes learning, inquiry, innovation, accountability and professionalism. QUALIFICATIONS: •Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required •Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required; Master’s Degree in Nursing or Education preferred •CNA Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing preferred •5+ years recent clinical nursing experience and strong expertise in Mental Health and Addiction •Demonstrated understanding of relevant health legislation and standards of practice •Demonstrated evidence of clinical excellence, continuous professional development, mentorship/preceptorship, project management, leadership development and relational skills •Strong clinical and theoretical background within mental health nursing •Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in nursing clinical practice and education •Demonstrated commitment to supporting growth and professional development across the career trajectory of nurses, including orientation, mentorship, and career development •Demonstrated strong commitment to patient and family-centered care •Demonstrated knowledge and ability in all aspects of adult education, including needs analysis, program and curriculum design, and evaluation •Excellent relational, communication, organizational, team collaboration and time management skills •Demonstrated ability to utilize principles of knowledge transfer to facilitate practice change & implementation of best practices •Knowledge and experience with change management methodologies and quality outcomes •Ability to work with a high degree of proficiency both independently and collaboratively with teams •Ability to use information technology and demonstrate working knowledge and proficiency in appropriate computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems, Electronic Documentation, Digital Order Sets, all Nursing related or Clinical Software Applications supported by SJHH •Excellent working knowledge of current and future trends in health care & within the nursing profession •A resume outlining additional education, qualifications and experience should accompany the application. •Good attendance and work record are essential RESPONSIBILITIES: •Serves as a role model and leader in advancing nursing practice that will optimize patient outcomes and experiences while enhancing the nursing care and the safety, efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility of patient care •Works in collaboration with individuals, units and departments to support clinical (nursing) program goals and best practices •Acts as a formal and informal educational consultant to departments and programs on clinical practice issues and problem resolutions •Coordinate, plan, develop, implement and evaluate educational programs at a unit and organizational level •Prioritize educational requests and needs in consultation with identified staff and relevant stakeholders within and external to the SJHH organization •Assist in the facilitation of an appropriate climate for the teaching-learning process by assessing, developing, planning and presenting educational activities fostering the development of competence in the nursing staff •Promote and contribute to an environment that encourages evidence-based research, and application of research findings in evidence-based practice; participates in applying and implementing new standards of nursing practice •Support excellence in nursing professional practice through leadership practice, education, project management and change agency •Collaborates with staff at point of patient care to identify knowledge gaps and supports just in time education for staff within clinical areas •Supports learners to identify their own needs as well as the effective learning activities to meet those needs •Advocates for and develops systems to ensure the consistent application of the College of Nurses of Ontario’s Practice Standards and Practice Guidelines as well as standards of practice within the applicable nursing specialty (i.e., Canadian Standards for Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, etc.) Original job Nurse Educator - New Graduates posted on GrabJobs ©.
