About the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is a national regulator that works to improve the lives of older people by maintaining the integrity of the aged care system. We offer a variety of interesting and challenging jobs across most capital cities.

This role as a Registered Nurse in the Serious Incident Assessment (SIRA) team will provide clinical advice, support and guidance to SIRS assessors managing notifications within clinical issues.

Responsibilities

Providing clinical advice, support and guidance to SIRS assessors managing notifications within clinical issues.
Analysing evidence from a range of sources, including clinical documentation and comparing this with expected clinical practice in aged care to identify clinical risks and deficiencies in care provision.
Using strong communication skills including, writing with influence, preparation of briefs and reports and the ability to sort and synthesise information.
Creating a positive and collaborative culture that encourages and acts on feedback via Quality Assurance (peer to peer review) of clinical advice provided by other SIRA Registered Clinician's (RC's) and/or Clinical Advisers from CCAG's Clinical Unit.
Contributing to and supporting the development of clinical governance within SIRA.
Contributing to triage and assessment of referrals and requests for clinical advice of notifications and information received.
Managing your own caseload by ensuring timely and effective advice while contributing to the overall objectives and outcomes of your team.
Accurately recording information via the Commissions information management systems, presently the Aged Care Case Management Information System (ACCMIS).
Supporting regulatory teams through the provision of clinical advice and associated recommendations/consideration of high-risk notifications.
Providing clinical advice that is aligned not only within best practice clinical guidelines but also within the regulatory requirements of an Aged Care Approved Provider.
Representing your team in decision-making forums including internal governance forums to identify and contribute to improvements.
Encouraging innovation and making active contributions to changes in business process improvements and project development.
As required contributing to business planning, design of training, developing job aids and other supports.
Building and maintaining effective working relationships with CCAG and other teams in the Commission to identify and respond to risk.
As required, research and analysis of identified strategic priorities and associated trends.
Requirements

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) supported by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to assess and manage risk, work within legislative requirements, make impartial recommendations and access and use specialist advice when needed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write comprehensive evidence-based clinical advice with justifiable reasoning for decisions.
Capacity to work in a busy environment, working with competing priorities and ability to effectively manage and prioritise workload to deliver an agreed outcome.
Ability to remain positive and respond to pressure in a calm manner.
Ability to work in an environment where you are responsible for clinical advice pertaining to sensitive and at times confronting information.
Demonstrated strategic, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess and manage risk.
Demonstrated leadership experience building the capability of team members to undertake their roles effectively, efficiently, collaboratively and safely.
Sound understanding of Commission's risk frameworks and guidelines and SIRA specific legislation, guidelines and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to build internal partnerships to deliver on the SIRA program.
Demonstrated experience in a public sector role and/or understanding of the Commission's role as an end-to-end regulator.
Understanding of operational and corporate requirements across the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission or similar environments.
