Responsibilities
Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Under the direction of the manager, the Nurse, Surgery Data Abstractor is responsible for review and abstraction of surgery data registry from the organizations medical records system, to help ensure compliance with nationally recognized patient care processes and clinical outcomes
Gather, enter, and harvest data from databases, compile information, and prepare reports to facilitate efficient workloads
Identify trends and issues for corrective action
Data abstraction from chart review/EMR for specific patient populations, directly related to the registry identified
Interact with patient care providers (physicians, APRNs, PAs, etc.) by means of in-services, rounding, clarification query requests and personal contacts to ensure quality documentation practices, documentation clarification, documentation policies/procedures and regulations
Communicate effectively orally, and in writing, or before audiences with providers, to mid-level providers related to meeting criteria in documentation around ordering or contraindications, if not ordering per guideline of directed medical therapies, inclusive of queries for clarification
Ability to present information to service line leadership
Other duties as assigned, including special projects assigned by organizational leadership
Serve as a subject matter expert and educational resource specific to designated registry
May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents

ABOUT THE JOB

Under the direction of the manager, the Nurse, Surgery Data Abstractor is responsible for review and abstraction of surgery data registry from the organizations medical records system, to help ensure compliance with nationally recognized patient care processes and clinical outcomes. This position requires attention to detail and ability to function well under timeline commitments. This is inclusive of but not limited to the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) registry.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Gather, enter, and harvest data from databases, compile information, and prepare reports to facilitate efficient workloads.

Identify trends and issues for corrective action.
