Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Oncology
Duties:
- Provide direct patient care in the oncology department, both under physician's direction and independently after credentialing and training complete, to include administration of chemotherapy treatments (as warranted but rare), monitoring vital signs, and managing side effects of treatments, emergency care as warranted
- Conduct patient assessments and develop individualized care plans via examination under physician direction
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and implement patient care
- Educate patients and their families about treatment options, side effects, and self-care techniques; chemo teachings and survivorship
- Approve medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians based on lab results
- Assist with procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures, as well as other duties as described and established by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
- Document patient information accurately via office notes and maintain medical records via the patient's electronic health record.
Qualifications:
- Valid RN license in the state of Georgia with a APRN specialty and nationally certified in oncology. Will train and license the right candidate.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in oncology nursing preferred
- Strong knowledge of oncology treatments, medications, and side effects
- Proficient in patient assessment and care planning
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred
- Experience working with patients with developmental disabilities or senior care is a plus
- Familiarity with durable medical equipment (DME) used in oncology settings is desirable
