Operations Manager
Reports To
Executive Director
Position Summary
The Operations Manager (OM) assists the Executive Director with the effective day-to-day operational management of the synagogue. This role ensures that facilities, staff, systems and administrative processes support the synagogue’s religious, educational, and community mission.
Operations & Administration
Work with entire staff to ensure smooth, efficient functioning
Develop, implement, and maintain operational policies and procedures
Oversee rentals, in coordination with Facilities Manager
Maintain current Certificates of Insurance for all vendors
Oversee vendor contracts
Work with the Executive Director to establish, maintain, and continuously improve policies, procedures, and internal controls
Assist Executive Director with relations with law enforcement, security consultants, and insurers
Coordinate synagogue security protocols, emergency preparedness plans and trainings
Oversee purchasing for all departments to maximize savings and efficiency
Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management, including documentation of performance issues and the maintenance of employee files
Membership & Systems Support
Work with staff to maximize efficiencies in membership administration, records, and database systems (e.g., ShulCloud or similar)
Ensure accurate data management, billing
Provide communications support
Improve systems and workflows to enhance member experience
Board & Committee Support
Serve as staff liaison to relevant board committees
Community Experience
Ensure synagogue operations reflect a welcoming, organized, and professional environment
Support clergy and program staff with logistics for services, holidays, and special events
Respond to operational issues with sensitivity to congregational culture and needs
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
2+ years of operations, facilities, or nonprofit management experience
Strong organizational, financial, and problem-solving skills
Experience supervising staff and managing vendors
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfort working in a synagogue, Jewish nonprofit, or similar membership organization
Experience working with boards and volunteer leadership
Knowledge of Jewish calendar, holidays, and lifecycle needs
