The OT Nurse in the Gynecology Department is responsible for providing high-quality perioperative care to patients undergoing gynecological surgeries. This role involves preparing the operating room, assisting the surgical team, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining sterile conditions throughout the procedure.
Key Responsibilities:
• Pre-Operative Duties:
• Prepare the operating room for surgery by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile and ready.
• Verify patient identity and the surgical procedure to be performed.
• Assist in the positioning of patients on the operating table to ensure comfort and access for the surgical team.
• Perform pre-operative checks, including reviewing patient records and obtaining informed consent.
• Intra-Operative Duties:
• Assist the surgeon and surgical team during the procedure by passing instruments, sutures, and other necessary materials.
• Monitor the patient’s vital signs and communicate any concerns to the surgical team promptly.
• Ensure the maintenance of aseptic techniques to prevent infections.
• Handle specimens collected during surgery, ensuring they are labeled and sent for analysis.
• Post-Operative Duties:
• Assist in the transfer of patients to the recovery room, ensuring all vital signs are stable.
• Monitor patients during the immediate post-operative period, providing care and comfort as needed.
• Report any complications or unusual observations to the attending physician.
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately in the medical records.
• Equipment and Supplies Management:
• Ensure that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and stored.
• Maintain inventory of operating room supplies and request replenishments as needed.
• Report any malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate department for repair or replacement.
