OT Technician
Job description
Role & responsibilities
1. Pre-Operative Duties:
• Prepare and set up the operation theatre before surgery.
• Sterilize surgical instruments and ensure all necessary equipment is ready and functional.
• Assist in positioning and preparing the patient for surgery, ensuring comfort and safety.
• Check and arrange surgical tools, machines, and materials as per the surgical requirement.
• Ensure all consumables (drapes, sutures, gloves, etc.) are available and not expired.
2. Intra-Operative Assistance:
• Assist surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures by handing over instruments and supplies.
• Monitor and manage OT equipment during surgery (e.g., lights, suction, cautery).
• Maintain sterile conditions throughout the procedure.
• Respond quickly to the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth workflow.
3. Post-Operative Duties:
• Help shift the patient from the OT to the recovery room or ICU.
• Clean, sterilize, and safely store surgical tools and equipment after the procedure.
• Dispose of medical waste and used materials as per infection control guidelines.
• Prepare the OT for the next surgery by restocking and cleaning.
4. Administrative Tasks:
• Maintain inventory of OT supplies and ensure timely replenishment.
• Record usage of instruments, medications, and other materials during surgeries.
• Report any malfunction or damage of equipment to the biomedical team.
5. Emergency Response:
• Be on-call for emergency surgeries.
• Act quickly and efficiently during trauma or critical surgical cases.
