Position summary

SES is looking for an Outdoor Education Coordinator/Teacher. This role will plan, deliver and monitor educational services for Stz’uminus First Nations Community Members that adhere to the philosophy, goals and mission statement of the SES vision mission and goals. Targeted start date for this role is August 2025 (SY 2025 – 2026)

The position

Apply Indigenous ways of knowing to BC Curriculum.

Plan, prepare and provide instruction according to the BC school curriculum.

Develop appropriate age level lessons plans that scaffold for the diverse needs of the class.

Create routine and general flow of the classroom including classroom expectations, routines, and set-up and tear-down of the classroom before and after instructional time

Develop lessons utilizing the curriculum for all grade levels.

Maintain attendance and encourage regular attendance of all students.

Implement Land Based/outdoor education from a Coast Salish lens alongside cultural classroom supports.

Perform daily prep work ensuring a tidy classroom with enough materials, visual aids, displays and school-based activities.

Effectively use daily prep time of 1.5 hours per week (built into the weekly schedule).

Create on-going student assessment of and for learning and communicating progress with families following reporting guidelines established by SES

Utilize assessment to target instruction and learning gaps of each student.

Maintain confidential student and teacher files.

Communicate with families with samples of students learning throughout the year, in particular in areas of growth, apart from learning updates.

Support cultural and spiritual learning including singing, drumming, dance, language, land, and medicines.

Support learning by implementing Independent Education Plans and behavior support plans.

Encourage and support independent learning and communicating needs to the principal.

Supports students' use of educational technology and/or various assistive communication modalities

Help the child with physical needs such as hygiene, washing, and toileting if necessary

Supervise all assigned outdoor time including yard time at recess

Aid students in the case of injury or illness; perform assigned duties during fire/earthquake/lockdown drills and other emergency situations

Carry out other assigned comparable duties that are within the scope of knowledge and skills that are required for this job description.

What you bring

A Bachelor of Education Degree

A valid BC Teaching certificate or eligibility for certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB)

Excellent verbal, written, facilitation and organizational skills.

Displays social-emotional competencies of self-awareness, empathy, flexibility, relationship building and responsible decision-making.

Within a collaborative environment, develop a comprehensive understanding of curriculum with the ability to influence instruction, assessment, indigenous education and social emotional learning practices.

Ability to implement effective strategies to engage and support academic success for all learners in an inclusive environment

Experience in designing and applying various assessment techniques to measure and monitor student progress.

Committed to professional development with a desire to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies to provide a creative, engaged, and inclusive classroom experience.

Collaborates with students, parents and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.

Awareness of trauma informed wellness for self and others

Able to pass a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
