POSITION SUMMARY:

The Packaging Operator is responsible for operating, tending, troubleshooting, and general preventive maintenance of machines used to package food products for storage and shipment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible to ensure team adheres to safety and quality expectations.
Review machine, equipment, maintenance orders, and sanitation reports to ensure machine and equipment are functional and ready for use.
Clean, oil, set-up, and make minor adjustments or repairs to machinery and equipment.
Verify product to confirm production standardized settings and product quality are met.
Communicate with Tank Farm Operator to receive oils once receiving guidelines are met; validate votator machines are on and oil is being circulated.
Regulate machine flow, pressure, speed, or temperature; adjust values and lines accordingly to produce final product.
Ensure quality and conformity of filled products meet production standards.
Document failures and provide corrective actions as needed.
Monitor the production line and equipment (box erectors, filling machines, box closers, metal detectors, labelers/lot coders, palletizers), watch for problems such as jams, pileups, and improper machine functionality.
Supply packaging materials such as boxes, stretch wrap and other packaging materials to ensure smooth packing operations.
Count and record finished and rejected packaged items and properly put into inventory system.
Inspect and remove defective products and packaging material.
After production guidelines are met, return unused oil back into Tank Farm; ensure proper procedures are followed.
Follows proper Good Manufacturing Practices and wears proper PPE (bump cap, ear plugs, safety glasses, hair/beard nets, steel boots, gloves, etc). Always be mindful of and adhere to GMP, Quality and Food Safety requirements.
Train other employees in the use and operation of equipment.
Use of electric pallet jacks and powered lift vehicles to move packaged product.
Understand and provide metrics, associated with department success, to leadership.
Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA, FDA, BRC, & Cal-OSHA regulations.
Other projects and duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

High School Diploma or GED.
6-12 months combination of education and experience.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office and plant setting. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the work area.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Perform tasks requiring reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, talking, and hearing.
Requires ability to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and focus.
Stand, walk, and/or sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
