Job Description
The Security Officer has the responsibility of safeguarding passengers, ground personnel, crew and the general public from unlawful interference with civil aviation.
You will maintain aviation security standards ensuring the safe and smooth transition of passengers, staff and airport users in accordance with EU and DfT regulatory requirements, service delivery standards, SOP’s and performance targets.
Responsibilities:
Ownership for working together as part of a team to achieve KPI’s, compliance and business objectives, resolving any issues in line with the Security Operations Quality Management System (SEMS)
Operate to and comply with SOP’s (standard operating procedures)
Carrying out the physical search of departing passengers, their hand luggage and airport staff with the aid of security and screening equipment to ensure no prohibited and/or dangerous articles or persons gain access to the Critical Part.
Carry out searches of buildings and vehicles Be self-motivated and goal driven
Undertake recorded patrols by foot or vehicle of airport premises and periphery, remaining alert and vigilant for the purpose of identifying and taking appropriate action to;
Prevent unauthorized access, trespass and intrusion onto airport property, especially the Critical Part
Report any damage to perimeter fence or other property buildings which compromise security of the Critical part or airport property
Report suspicious persons or vehicles immediately to the Security Operations Manager
Report any non-compliance issues
Responsible for staying up to date on all orders and staff notices/instructions. In the event of being unclear, know where to find and refer to them
Staffing and controlling access points – identifying and verifying persons and vehicles entering the critical part.
To control and prevent unauthorised access at Security Access/Control Posts by means of;
Verify boarding cards of intending passengers at Control Points
Refuse entry to unauthorised persons and take action where necessary
Unattended items/suspicious articles – evaluating a situation and taking the necessary course of action.
To assist with various ad hoc duties as reasonably required from time to time
Experience and Personal Attributes
To be able to supply a 5 year checkable work history for reference purposes
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
Normal colour vision
Experience of working with the general public
Good communication skills
No previous security experience or SIA bagde required
Need to exhibit great attention to detail especially when viewing and interpreting x-ray images.
This position requires particular attention to your senses (vision, touch, smell, hearing) especially when searching persons and/or their belongings.
You will be responsible for making decisions and working as part of a team
Responsible for your own personal standards of appearance, behaviour, performance and compliance
Hours of Work:
An average of 40 hours per week on a rotating roster that starts as early as 04:30am and finishes as late as 10:30pm.
Includes weekends and public holidays. Flexibility required.
