The Official Visitors Board (Board) is established by section 23A of the Official Visitor Act 2012 and comprises of the Chair, the ACT Public Trustee and Guardian, a Commissioner from the ACT Human Rights Commission and two Official Visitors.

The functions of the Board are:

to oversee the exercise of functions by Official Visitors;
to arrange recruitment, induction, training and support of Official Visitors;
to provide support for and manage the exercise of functions by Official Visitors;
to consider and try to resolve any complaints about Official Visitors; * to meet at least quarterly;
to provide the Minister an annual report of the Scheme at the end of each financial year; and
any other function given to the Board under legislation.

Job description

The responsibilities of the Chair include overseeing governance of the Official Visitor Scheme, supporting the work of the Official Visitors Executive Officer, supporting Official Visitors to understand government processes and the scope of their statutory functions, resolving and referring complaints or issues regarding Official Visitors or the operation of the scheme, organising and chairing Board meetings and overseeing the preparation of the Annual Report for the Official Visitor Scheme.
