Malai is looking to hire a Pastry Assistant to assist with ice cream production, ingredient preparation, baking and cone making. To be successful as a Pastry Assistant, you should exercise exceptional time management to ensure that all duties are completed in a timely manner. This role will also perform washing and cleaning duties that are required in the kitchen. Additionally, an outstanding Pastry Assistant should be able to comply with all food health and safety regulations. We are a small, team oriented kitchen, so must be able to work and communicate well with others.This job is perfect for someone who wants to be a part of a growing company/ team, is a self-starter, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment and loves ice cream! There is an ample opportunity to grow with the team.
What You Will Do:
• Follows and assists the Kitchen Manager, Assistant Kitchen Manager, and Kitchen Leads in all areas of production, including ice cream, desserts, cones and ingredient preparation.
• Produces ice cream according to the daily production schedule.
• Follows recipes and production protocols explicitly, carefully weighing and measuring all ingredients as specified to the gram.
• Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
• Assisting with the picking up, and unloading of deliveries from food supplies.
• Organizing and correctly storing food supplies, using FIFO.
• Take ownership over completion of your tasks as assigned by Managers as well as helping others complete theirs quickly and effectively.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
What We Are Looking For:
• Proven experience assisting in fast paced kitchens.
• NYC issued Food Handlers license, or willing to obtain one within 2 weeks of being hired.
• Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
• The ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• The ability to work in a team and positive attitude.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Must have Weekend availability.
• Must be 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the US.
