Job Description

Payroll Officer

Maintenance and processing of all payrolls to meet legal and contractual requirements whilst providing comprehensive support service to the National Payroll Manager to ensure that the Payroll system and associated tasks are performed in an accurate, timely and ethical manner.

Manages and develops the provision of HRIS statistical data for the business to ensure adequate and appropriate support to the business through the availability of clear and meaningful data.

Key Accountabilities

Process all relevant documentation relating to nominated payroll to ensure accurate and timely completion of Payroll
Resolve enquiries relating to payroll to ensure correct interpretation and proper processing of payroll.
Design and develop appropriate reports and programs to ensure ad hoc business requests are met
Identify and implement opportunities to improve, create new methods and build on reporting of HR data to ensure the business is provided with relevant, beneficial, clear and concise information
Investigate enquiries relating to all aspects of payroll administration to ensure prompt responses to employee, Government, ATO, Superannuation and management requests.
Interrogate CHRIS system to ensure the running of regular payroll reports including Workforce analysis.
Support the National Payroll Manager in the maintenance and modification of HRIS to ensure that the system meets the business needs.
Update payroll details as required to ensure the regular and accurate maintenance of the CHRIS System.
Liaise with other payroll and HR staff regarding payroll issues to ensure best practice and sound communications.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline such as finance, actuarial studies or statistics.
Considerable experience performing full function payroll duties using computerized payroll system
Experience with CHRIS System
Substantial experience in understanding and interpreting EA’s/Awards
Considerable previous experience in maximizing a complex information system preferably with HRIS experience (CHRIS21 an advantage)
Previous experience in systems, reporting and/or analytical roles
Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and meet given deadline.
Demonstrated strong numeric skills
Sound understanding of legislation requirement surrounding payroll procedures and processes
Good working knowledge of MS office- particularly Excel and Word
Proven team player- willing to assist in all areas
High ethics and ability to maintain strict confidentially
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle pressure and respond to urgent requests
Demonstrated ability to educate users in systems use and reporting analysis
Sound understanding of HR function, Information Systems and Payroll procedures
Data base skills using Microsoft products such as Excel and Access as well as third party analysis tools such as Cognos Powerplay, Crystal Reporting or other similar products
