Description
Responsible for the processing of payroll and accounts payable for the City. Also acts as purchasing agent for certain office products. Provides assistance to the Assistant Chief Finance Officer as requested.
Examples of Duties
Maintains, updates and reconciles various logs, reports, ledgers, files and spreadsheets
Maintains and files payroll related records and reports, including quarterly 941s and annual 1099s and W2s
Assists with entering data on fixed assets and running reports as necessary
Resolve discrepancies in benefit programs as needed
Assist with the creation/editing of the personnel rules and regulations as needed
Provide assistance in accounts payable as needed
Prepares and processes all payroll functions
Prints checks for accounts payable and payroll
Audit payroll status change forms and benefit deductions
Interpreting and applying personnel rules and regulations to effectively process payroll.
Purchases certain office products as needed.
Answer phones and helps at the customer counter as needed
Acts as a backup to the Human Resources Department when needed
All other tasks as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or at least five (5) years of recent experience in similar organization
Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices for payroll and accounts payable functions.
Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle multitasking and stressful situations
