About the Role:
We are seeking passionate Peer Practitioners to join our Mental Health team across both the Northern Adelaide Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC) and Safe Haven. These casual roles offer a unique opportunity to work across two complementary services, supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges and distress.
Drawing on your lived experience, you will provide person-centred, recovery-oriented peer support to individuals, as well as their families, carers, and supporters. You’ll play a vital role in fostering hope, connection, and empowerment, particularly for those experiencing distress or crisis.
At MMHC (Elizabeth), you will work within an Immediate Access Care model, supporting guests in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinical environment. At Safe Haven (Salisbury), you will provide a welcoming, supportive space as a first point of contact, offering peer support and connection during vulnerable times.
Across both services, you will:
Build meaningful, respectful relationships using your lived experience
Support individuals in their recovery journey through strengths-based, trauma-informed practice
Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians and other peer workers
Assist with administrative tasks, including client records and data entry
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in people’s lives while working within a supportive and values-driven organisation.
Experience Requirements:
We’re looking for Peer Practitioners who bring both lived experience and practical skills, including:
Lived experience of mental health challenges (and/or AOD), with demonstrated recovery and ability to use this safely to support others
Experience working in a fast-paced or client-facing environment
Previous experience in a peer work, mental health, community services or similar role (desirable)
Experience working within a multidisciplinary team or alongside clinicians (desirable)
Experience with administrative tasks, including data entry and using client management systems
Strong ability to build rapport and communicate with a diverse range of people
Ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm under pressure
Experience supporting people in distress, including de-escalation (desirable)
Qualification and Other Requirements:
Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or currently completing or a willingness to complete
Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC)
Knowledge and experience in using the Microsoft suite of software and databases.
How to apply:
Applicants are requested to send a cover letter and resume to Sonder via our careers portal on our website.
Feel free to send any enquiries to sondercareers@sonder.net.au
Advert Closing Date: Tuesday 7 April 2026
