Description
The AMS Services’ main mandate is to offer services and resources to the membership which are in significant demand and aim to further the well-being of the membership as a whole.
Each of these Services are run by a Coordinator, and in some instances, with the help of Assistant Coordinator(s).
Each of the Assistant Coordinators will be overseen on a daily basis by the Senior Manager, Student Services, a full-time, permanent, non-student role as well as their Services Coordinator, a part-time student role.
In this position, you will use your experience in peer support to assist in leading a group of volunteers who provide information, peer and crisis support within an anti-oppression framework. The ideal candidate will have experience with facilitation, coaching, and providing peer support. Experience volunteering with the service is strongly advised for this leadership position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in hiring of Volunteers and Team Leaders, including contributing to an extensive hiring campaign
Assist in organizing, planning, and attending Volunteer Training events
Schedule Volunteer shifts and team meetings
Facilitate outreach and internal project meetings
Facilitate additional meetings where necessary (team meetings, one-on-one’s, etc.)
Assist with and attend Volunteer appreciation events
Review Support Session case notes and debrief with Support volunteers as needed and requested
Troubleshoot day-to-day situations that may occur at Peer Support
Maintain and attend office hours
Ensure that Peer Support maintains a visible, year-round presence on campus
Assist in developing and administering tools for Volunteer evaluation and client feedback
Establish positive working relationships with Volunteers, Team Leaders, Peer Support Coordinator, other Service Coordinators, and community members and committees
Other tasks as required by the service or delegated by the Coordinator
Oversee workshop/training development as necessary
Qualifications:
Must be a currently registered UBC Student
Experience providing front-line support in a peer support mental health service is required; an academic background in counselling or social work is a strong asset
Knowledge of community building strategies
Knowledge of, and previous training in, providing support in areas such as suicide, ****** assault, coping mechanisms, stress, depression, relationship concerns and other issues
Conflict resolutions skills are an asset
Connections with on and off campus services related to but not exclusive to counseling, health, and wellness
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
Able to administrate projects and delegate tasks in a responsible and productive manner
Approachable, friendly, organized, responsible and resourceful
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Eligibility: Must be a currently enrolled student at UBC Vancouver, eligible for the Work Learn program.
Experience Level: Current Students in an Undergraduate Program, Current Students in a Masters Program, Current Students in a PhD Program
