Supporting youth with lived‑experience insight to promote safety, self‑determination, and stronger social connections.

Achieve Something Great
Use your lived experience to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people. As a Peer Worker with the Drug and ******* Youth Service (DAYS), you will provide individual and group support that promotes harm reduction, informed choice, self‑determination and social connection. You will play a key role in building trust and guiding young people as they navigate their AOD journey.

Support consumers to engage in their care by providing information, advocacy, wellness planning, goal setting and assistance navigating the Drug Health Service.
Participate in allocation, care reviews and clinical handovers in collaboration with clinicians.
Deliver community education on Drug Health Services and support DHS staff in working effectively with young people.
Work respectfully and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and alongside families, carers and other service providers.
stablish and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs and community organisations.

Are You the Right Fit?
We’re looking for a peer worker who can confidently bring their lived experience into a professional setting to support young people engaging with AOD services. The ideal candidate will:

Understand the key differences between the role of a peer worker and that of a case manager or AOD clinician.
Maintain clear personal and professional boundaries while drawing appropriately on their own journey to support young people.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of how to engage and support young people in their AOD use using a peer‑based, lived‑experience approach.
Work collaboratively alongside nurses, social workers and the Aboriginal Health Team, while functioning independently to support youth engagement with the service.
Build trust with young people and help them understand the care and support provided by NSW Health. Be flexible and confident working across the SWSLHD region, based in Cabramatta but meeting clients in hospitals, community health centres and schools.

Explain your understanding of and commitment to harm reduction and consumer led recovery principles.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with a range of key stakeholders including but not limited to Emergency Department staff, GPs, non-government organisations, inpatient and community DHS teams, consumers, carers and families and broader communities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy with the ability to use relevant software programs (e.g. Word,Excel, and Outlook).
