About our opportunity

We are looking for two Pest Management Officers (Plants) to join our Environmental Services team at Caboolture!

As a Pest Management Officer, you will have specialist knowledge of restricted plants and environmental weeds commonly found across the region and know exactly how to manage them effectively.

In this role, you will be able to apply your extensive local terrestrial and aquatic pest plant knowledge to establish site specific management strategies. Whilst strong knowledge in the ecology of both terrestrial and aquatic pest plants is desired, if your skillset favours one rather than both, transferable skillsets are accepted.

You will be highly mobile around the Local Government Area, monitoring sites for restricted weed populations. In addition, you’ll be responsible for undertaking control treatments and managing a network of contractors to undertake required work/treatments in accordance with Council’s high standards. Our standards also extend to providing excellence in customer service, which is required for dealing with members of the public.

Safety is one of Council’s highest priorities, so you’ll also need to be able to undertake comprehensive risk assessments and site inductions to ensure that everyone is working in a safe manner. A moderate level of fitness will be required, as you will need to periodically undertake treatments of minor pest plant infestations.

About You

You will be a specialist that can identify restricted terrestrial and aquatic plants as well as recommend, undertake, and manage effective control techniques/treatments. Ideally, you will have adequate knowledge of registered herbicides, a high attention to detail, and experience in assessing and managing risks in the operating environment.

To undertake pest inspections within our region, is it essential you can demonstrate your experience or ability to develop and maintain a working knowledge of the legislative requirements under the Biosecurity Act 2014.

You will be an effective communicator who holds significant interpersonal and communications skills, enabling you to converse with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will also enjoy working as part of a team, be comfortable working remotely across our vast region including around waterbodies, and most importantly, prioritise safety and integrity whilst undertaking duties and managing contractors within our region.

In addition, it will be desirable to hold the following:

Tertiary qualification in Conservation Land Management or Environmental Management (or ability to acquire)
Current Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control (ACDC) licence
Construction Induction Card (White Card)
Environmental Services Department

This role sits within our Environmental Services department that supports Council and the community to create a healthy, protected and integrated natural environment which people value, engage with and enjoy. This is achieved through the delivery of environmental programs and projects targeted at conservation of the natural environment and protection and enhancement of environmental values.

The department has three management areas - Environment and Conservation; Pest Management and Environmental Centres and Projects, supported by a Business Support unit.
