We also have interest in several other oil sands projects, including Hangingstone, operated by Greenfire Resources Operating Corporation and Syncrude’s oil sands mining upgrading facility. In addition to our oil sands business, we have shale gas land in Northeast British Columbia, a power station in Balzac, Alberta, and interest in a wind farm in southern Alberta. Bold ideas, diverse perspectives, and the determination to fuel our success are what set us apart. Therefore, we are seeking a Petroleum Systems Analyst to join our growing team in Calgary, Alberta. This dynamic role will be instrumental in evaluating international exploration acreage from a regional to prospect scale. In the position, the successful candidate will be working with multi-disciplinary teams across multiple international projects concurrently.
Your Background
Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Geoscience (or appropriate equivalent) with knowledge and interest in Petroleum Systems Analysis and/or Geochemistry.
Related Industry experience is an asset.
With training and support provided by CNOOC, the position will require the candidate to gain detailed knowledge and experience in the following:
Creating integrated and calibrated basin models in Trinity/Genesis and Petromod.
Advanced geochemical knowledge and ability to analyze/interpret relevant data sets (Rock & Fluid geochemistry, pressure and temperature, etc.).
Understanding the influence of tectonic processes in a full crustal and mantle framework on heat flow within sedimentary basins through time.
Well planning and delivery experience, such as geochemical sample programme design, real-time gas analysis and post well laboratory analysis coordination, will be advantageous.
General knowledge of geology, geochemistry, geophysics, petrophysics, and petroleum engineering.
General knowledge and understanding of New Ventures, Exploration and Appraisal business processes including drilling exploration wells.
Basic understanding of Pore Pressure and Fracture Gradient prediction techniques; real-time pressure detection experience is favorable.
Experience in Zetaware (Trinity/Genesis/KinEx software) and PetroMod is favourable.
Other software desired knowledge: Petrel and ArcGIS.
Eligible for a professional designation with APEGA.
Your Role with Our Team
1 - Business Delivery. Deliver top-tier petroleum systems evaluations for projects supported by the Technical Support Centre (TSC) Exploration Teams, with a focus on South American Offshore Basins. You will be working with a multidisciplinary geoscience team to complete petroleum systems assessments on prospect to regional scale projects, which may include integration of geochemical data, source rock analysis, maturity & hydrocarbon expulsion modeling, hydrocarbon phase prediction, and charge modeling.
2 – Geochemistry. Provide in-depth interpretation and integration of a wide range of organic/inorganic geochemical analyses to deliver robust petroleum systems analysis in various basins settings around the world.
3 – New Ventures. Support New Ventures and Headquarter evaluations in a timely manner to an appropriate degree based on project evaluation endorsement. Provide and adhere to accurate timelines, maintain technical rigor, and ensure complete and clear deliverables for all projects. Manage workload working on multiple project areas simultaneously/in parallel.
4 - Leadership. Share modern, approachable workflows in Petroleum Systems with a larger audience, particularly geoscientists. Hold at least one "course" for interested team members and show example applications, workflows, and models. Follow up with one-on-one work if needed and as time allows.
5 - Development. Ensure your technical capabilities and methods are up to date by involvement with applicable technical societies. Ensure all work is complete and follows rigorous technical quality standards. Constantly seek to improve methodologies and evaluation techniques, as well as ideas that would enhance key business metrics of CNOOC projects.
