Summary of the Role
As a Pilot Truck Driver with BDS Inc., you’ll play a critical role in supporting our heavy haul and over-dimensional transport operations. You will ****** and guide our drivers and equipment safely through roads across Alberta and North America. Success in this position means consistently ensuring road safety, clear communication, and compliance with transport regulations—helping our specialized fleet move safely and efficiently. This role is essential to our operation and reflects our commitment to professionalism and industry-leading safety standards.
Responsibilities
• Safely ****** over-dimensional and heavy haul loads as lead (front) or chase (rear) pilot truck driver
• Communicate clearly and consistently with drivers, other ****** vehicles, and dispatch to coordinate movements
• Assess and mitigate hazards along planned routes (e.g., tight turns, overhead obstructions, traffic concerns)
• Ensure compliance with all provincial/state and federal transportation regulations, including oversize load requirements
• Maintain accurate logbooks, permits, and trip records as required
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on pilot vehicles and ensure all safety equipment is in working order
• Communicate with utility companies, local authorities, and permitting agencies as needed
• Uphold BDS Inc.’s safety culture and represent the company with professionalism on every job site
Qualifications
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
• Valid passport — cross-border travel into the U.S. may be required
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a pilot truck driver (preferred)
• Understanding of oversize/overweight load transportation and routing
• Strong verbal communication and situational awareness
• Ability to work independently in varying weather and road conditions
• Flexibility to travel across Alberta and North America, including overnight trips
• Strong problem-solving skills and a calm, professional attitude under pressure
• Certification in Pilot Car Operations (if applicable) is an asset
