Responsibilities

Wagstaff manufactures equipment for aluminum producers, who process formed aluminum into parts and products you use every day

Assist with various types of welding, brazing, and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment under the instruction of production personnel

Support the activities of the welding team

The welder helper will ensure an organized work environment, and adequate maintenance of equipment and materials

Will guarantee welders have tools and materials, such as filler metal and grinding discs available, and operate welding machines, grinders, hammers, beveling machines, torches and magnetic drills

You will be familiar with various metals such as carbon and stainless steel

To ensure success you will pay attention to minute details, which will save costs associated with errors and consequent reworks

Maintain cleanliness of work areas

Assisting welders to set up work areas with tools and fixtures

Move rigs/fixtures between work areas

Ensuring welders have required materials and tools available, such as rods and grinding discs

Maintaining levels of materials and supplies

Loading and unloading machines and fixtures

Employing sanders and grinders to clean welds

Maintaining knowledge of various types of metal

Operating various tools and types of equipment

Identifying safety risks and hazards, and complying with relevant safety procedures and regulations

Transport parts using forklifts/carts to and from the weld work areas

Assist with fabrication of equipment by cutting, burning, drilling, and grinding

Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded

Abide by company policies

In order to achieve business objectives, work weeks in excess of 40 hours may be required

Other duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery and equipment, and vibration

The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals

While performing some job duties, there is a risk of electrical shock and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment

Job duties may require work in high, precarious places, work in outside weather conditions, and exposure to extreme temperatures in some cases

Job Summary

Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED

• Minimum of one (1) year working in a welding environment preferred. Accredited trade or vocational school welding certificate is preferred

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery and equipment, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing some job duties, there is a risk of electrical shock and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment. Job duties may require work in high, precarious places, work in outside weather conditions, and exposure to extreme temperatures in some cases. The noise level in the working environment is often loud. Because of this environment and associated risks, use of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required.

As a pipefitter helper, you will work within the shop to assist in the prefabrication of mechanical piping systems that are installed on commercial construction projects.

Compensation aspects of the role are dependent upon knowledge, skills and experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in fabricating piping systems for mechanical installations for use on commercial construction projects

• Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work including locations, quantities, and material specs.

• Assist in selecting type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment according to specifications

• Cuts, threads, bends, and assembles the pipes.

• Prepare, cut, fabricate, layout, fit, position, and assemble piping components together in various positions.

• Bolt, clamp, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.

• Assist in the installation of hangers, supports, valves and components according to piping system plans and specifications.

• Assist in performing leak tests to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems.

• Proper identification and use of tools required for tasks. (grinders, drills, beveling machine, etc.)

• Operate forklifts & overhead cranes.

• Assist in hoisting loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.

• Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

• Able to work from ladders and man lifts at various heights.

• Perform other related duties or special projects, as assigned.

Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications

• 2 years' experience with pipe fitting processes using piping such as carbon steel, stainless steel and copper preferred

• Welding certification preferred

• Ability to learn to read and understand weld symbols, weld procedures, mechanical and structural drawings.

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals in order to determine work procedures such as ISO's and blueprints

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and manufacturers manuals and instructions.

• OSHA 10 hour preferred

• High school diploma or GED preferred

• Able to work from ladders and man lifts from various heights and operate the equipment as needed

Additional Requirements

• Requires basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills.

• Maintain a positive, cooperative and coachable attitude

• Initiative; self-motivated (driven), self-starter.

• Ability to show analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to walk, stand, squat, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb, reach, grasp and comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.

• Regular and predictable attendance.

• Must be able to fulfill the essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and a safe manner.

• Work performed primarily inside but must go outside at times for product and various tasks.

• Exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

• The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

• Ability to pass a full background screening and drug screening

• Ability to pass MVR check (if applicable) or must have reliable transportation

• Ability to pass a physical ability test
