Based at our Edmonton plant location, we are searching for a Plant Manager. This role is responsible for the general oversight of Edmonton plant operations by providing a holistic leadership approach. The position will closely interact with all Edmonton departments, governing regulatory bodies, union representatives, contractors, service providers and key WCRL stakeholders from Corporate Office to achieve the Company’s goals in safety, cleanliness and productive capacity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations Management
Work closely with department supervisors to develop operating plans that meet company goals and market needs
Formulate standard operating procedures and policies within the guidelines of the overall Company policies
Direct supervision of Edmonton department leaders by providing a high-level oversight of the cost, effective delivery, efficient scheduling and functional department operations
Maintain and develop both a production facility and workforce capable of meeting production requirements in the present and future to accomplish business objectives
Prepare and maintain reports, as requested by senior executive or management
Delegates authority and responsibility to direct reports and assists the coordination of production, maintenance and transportation activities
Solves problems involving workflow, utilization of personnel skills, systems and facility to ensure an efficient and expedient production process
Coordinates productive daily, weekly and/or monthly meetings with department supervisors including creation of Tool Box Meeting schedules
Project management of special projects, plant upgrades or similar developments
Finance & KPI
Prepares operating labour budgets for various departments in conjunction with supervisors
Ensures that project and department milestones, goals are met and adhere to with respect to allocated budgets
Review monthly financial reports and other data or reports for analysis
Recommend and implement changes at the plant level to ensure alignment with allocated budgets
Collaborate with Purchasing Department on major budget expenditures and approval of occasional requisitions for Calgary and Lethbridge
Legal & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all systems and processes are operating within the guidelines of our CFIA operating permit, HACCP program and other regulatory requirements
Oversees production flow of raw materials and finished goods, ensuring product quality control standards are met
Collaborate alongside Environmental & Technical Services department regarding environmental-related issues that may arise
Administration and record keeping of HACCP, CFIA and other pertinent documents related to Municipal, Provincial, National and International governance
Labour Relations & People Management
Contribute to a positive work environment allowing for a positive employer-employee relationship to avoid grievances
Maintains sound labour relations with the Union and Plant Shop Stewards
Respond to grievances and labour relations matters in a timely manner, including employee-related grievances, wages, working conditions and progressive discipline
In conjunction with Manager of Human Resources, provide advice and guidance regarding the interpretation, compliance, administration and implementation of the Collective Agreement terms and conditions
Assist the Human Resources department in leading investigations pertaining to employee relations
Actively participate in the preparation, negotiation and collective bargaining of Collective Agreements
Supervises and trains supervisory personnel by directing their activities, and through them the activities of the entire work force
Manage payroll time-keeping records for employees within the payroll software system
Provide authorization of overtime shifts and vacation approvals
Recruit, hire and train the necessary personnel to the forecasted level of operation
People development and active performance management of all employees
Provide leadership to staff to maintain productivity while limiting and resolving conflicts
In the absence of department supervisors, provide back-up relief of responsibilities related to oversight of production, maintenance, fleet & transportation
Safety
Ensure that employees and operations are conducted safely and responsibly within the corporate programs and procedures of safety and best management practices
Assist in the implementation of safety procedural changes in addition to providing recommendations on improvements to Health and Safety Coordinator
Encourage a safety culture where employees do not put themselves or others at risk
Additional Responsibilities
Ability to travel occasionally to other WCRL divisions, including Saskatoon
Maintain positive relationships with key existing vendors and clients including Redux division’s key customers
Respond to escalated events or crises arising from customers, vendors and clients
Primary contact for emergency response and site preparedness in the event of a crisis
Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. Policies
Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values
Perform other duties as assigned by COO Chief Operating Officer
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Minimum 10 years progressive experience in a plant operation environment (production, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental compliance and administration) required
Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in a 24/7, industrial processing plant operations environment, or similar industry required
Possession of a valid Alberta Trade Technician Certificate, Interprovincial Red Seal Certification, or Steam Ticket Class 3 (or higher) is considered an asset
Solid understanding of general business principles preferred (eg. financial accounting, profit or loss, business risk, etc.)
Possess extensive knowledge of production department processes and operating efficiencies; solid understanding of WCRL production needs
Ability to lead and communicate in a clear and concise manner
Relevant college degree or equivalent combination of experience and education an asset
Excellent communication skills (written and oral), people skills (able to motivate, coach and develop people)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Maintenance Planning Software, and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems required
The work requires fitness to the extent that the incumbent must be able to access all parts of the plant at any given time, including: heights, ladders, multiple levels of stairs and rooftops. Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis
Demonstrated emotional intelligence and strong mentoring skills to effectively lead, develop and engage others
