Job Summary
THIS IS AN APPRENTICE POSITION -Level I, II, or III
Plumber, I
Assembles pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observes pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. Caulks leaks and opens clogged drains. Installs sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters and related plumbing fixtures. Reviews blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Estimates time and material costs on plumbing projects. Requisitions new plumbing supplies and equipment. Perform work under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
Requires little to no related experience.
Plumber, II
Requires 1 year of related experience: 1st year (two semesters of schooling and 2,000 hours) of apprenticeship to be already completed.
Plumber, III
Requires 3 years of related experience: 3rd year (6 semesters of schooling and 6,000 hours) of apprenticeship to be already completed.
Plumbers
Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT :
1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Requires little to no related experience.
Plumber, II:
Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
Plumber, III :
Requires 3+ years of related experience.
Preferences
Licensed or have ability to license as an apprentice plumber in the State of Utah and demonstrated human relation and effective communications skills or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Continued compliance with the qualified apprentice program is required. This will include classroom participation, and on the job training as required by the program. Dependent upon department of assignment, a valid Utah driver’s license may be required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
