Salary: $+7,+55 - $111,142 (Plus Superannuation)

The Role

As a Policy Adviser, you will work on priority projects across the Department's portfolios including jobs, skills, economic growth, industry and innovation, regional development, sport, tourism, major events and the creative industries. You will be a part of a high-performing team that operates like an internal management consulting firm to support joined-up strategy, project delivery and policy-development across the department.

Key accountabilities include:

Participate in specialist project teams established to address priority issues across the Department's portfolio areas, employing best practice project management disciplines to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the agreed scope and objectives.
Analyse data, collate evidence and support stakeholder engagement to analyse problems, formulate findings and recommendations on a wide range of public policy issues.
Contribute to the production of concise and compelling reports, briefs and submissions to facilitate effective decision-making.
Engage with stakeholders and maintain stakeholder relationships to ensure the effective delivery of projects.
Contribute to a positive team culture where everyone is supported to grow and develop, upholding the Department's values of Accountability, Integrity and Respect.
The Team

The position of Policy Adviser will work across Priority Projects branch, which sits within the Economic Policy, Projects and Coordination (EPPC) group.

EPPC group brings together advanced capabilities in economics and public policy, data and modelling, program design and evaluation, project management, delivery and assurance.

EPPC group works in partnership across the department, bringing a deep understanding of the Victorian economy, expertise in policy, program design and continuous improvement to provide a sound platform for new initiatives. EPPC group provides leadership in economic policy, including input to the Victorian Government's economic strategy. We also play a significant coordination role, providing central line-of-sight to enable crosscutting initiatives to be developed and delivered successfully.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

Problem solving: analytical and conceptual skills, including understanding of and ability to use problem solving methodologies to diagnose and analyse problems. This requires the ability to actively participate in problem solving and solutions development, with the ability to adapt thinking and approach throughout the process.
Project management: ability to plan ahead to manage competing tasks, and to take ownership of assigned workstreams and tasks, seeking guidance as needed. Experience working as a member of a project team in complex environments, with a proactive approach to identifying tasks that will support the project to succeed.
Policy nous: understanding of public policy and government processes, including familiarity with contemporary policy challenges across the department's portfolio areas and experience contributing to policy formulation and implementation in the public sector.
Communication: strong written, visual and verbal communications skills - including ability to develop communication suited to the situation and audience, based on an understanding of decision-makers' priorities. Ability to develop concise, high-quality outputs such as concise PowerPoint decks, reports, submissions and briefings, through application of narrative building and visual communication devices.
Engagement and relationships: collaborative stakeholder engagement skills to build trust and rapport with internal and external stakeholders. Experience supporting the design and facilitation of stakeholder engagement activities, such as interviews, workshops and surveys.
