The Opportunity



We are seeking a Policy Officer to join our Strategic Programs team!



We are currently looking for a Policy Officer to join our Strategic Programs team. As a Policy Officer, you will be responsible for various policy and legislative projects aimed at promoting the safe and sustainable use of vehicles.



This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to the development and implementation of important programs within our department. Your responsibilities will include researching and interpreting relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, as well as providing advice. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with the Strategic Programs team on program delivery initiatives and analyse complex issues, identifying critical areas for attention. Some ongoing projects involve crash towing industry reform, digital identity verification, national heavy vehicle licensing reform, and electric vehicles.



We’re seeking a positive and approachable individual who enjoys working collaboratively in a team environment. Your proactive approach and ability to thrive in high-pressure situations will be essential for success in this role.

Currently there are two (2) fixed term positions (one full-time, and one 0.5 part-time) available for immediate filling until 30 June 2025, with the possibility of extension(s) or permanency.



Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next 24 months from date of first appointment across the Department of Transport.

Demonstrate ability to identify trends and issues based on research and analysis of appropriate evidence sources
Display excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Effectively manage workloads and conflicting priorities
