About the opportunity:
Are you passionate about understanding how climate change is reshaping alpine freshwater ecosystems? We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Alpine Ecohydrology to join the Centre for Applied Water Science (CAWS) at the University of Canberra.
Join a collaborative team of freshwater ecologists and hydrologists working at the forefront of ecological research in Australia’s mountain landscapes in this dynamic full time fixed-term opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and apply models to forecast future stream discharge, snow cover, and water temperature
Design and implement ecological assessments, including space-for-time sampling, long-term dataset analysis, and mesocosm experiments
Investigate ecological responses of macroinvertebrates and ecosystem processes under environmental change
Collaborate with internal and external research team members and contribute to publications and funding proposals
About You:
You are an emerging researcher with a strong quantitative skillset and a passion for alpine or freshwater systems. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy working across disciplines, and are motivated to build a competitive research profile. To be successful, you will have:
A PhD (awarded or submitted) in a relevant field such as montane hydrology, alpine ecology, or freshwater ecology
Strong statistical analysis and modelling skills
The ability to conduct fieldwork, including in remote, cold, and wet environments
A current driver’s licence and experience with 4WD vehicles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
