Taitara Mahi - Pou Ārahi – Māori Advisor Libraries
Permanent full-time

Across our Hastings, Flaxmere and Havelock North Libraries, Hastings District Libraries are centres for lifelong learning and recreation. Our libraries aren't what they used to be - they're vibrant, noisy spaces where we have Nerf Wars, screaming kids and visitors from all parts of our community. These spaces can be tough, but the moments when visitors enjoy themselves or learn something new make it worth it. We offer a wealth of resources and are safe, welcoming and vibrant community spaces. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, organised team player to join the Libraries team as Pou Ārahi. This is a permanent full-time position working 40 hours over Monday to Saturday working across the three library facilities.

The purpose of this role is to guide the delivery of Ngā Ratonga Māori – Māori Services across Hastings District Libraries. Key areas of focus for this role are:

Engaging with Māori communities, both users and non-users of the libraries
Defining the direction and content of Mātauranga Māori Collections
Advising on and developing Māori programmes, initiatives, and activities for Māori and non-Māori audiences
Support for Libraries’ kaimahi on te reo and tikanga journeys.
The successful applicant will be fluent in te reo Māori and have good local knowledge. They should be digitally literate and have proven oral and written communication skills.

This position is part of the Community Engagement team that works with all parts of the community including youth, older adults, Māori, Pasifika and ethnic communities and reports to the Community Engagement Team Leader.

Applicants must be customer focused and be able to think on their feet in a busy and vibrant environment. As part of the wider libraries team the role also will also deliver an excellent level of customer service to all of our customers as part of the team working front of house services across all sites and opening hours of the week.

Situated in the heart of Ngāti Kahungunu, the Hastings district and Hawke’s Bay offer an enjoyable environment in which to live, work and play. We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. Are you keen to be a part of our journey?
