Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity:

We’re looking for a skilled professional to join our Hydro Maintenance Team, supporting the upkeep and performance of Mercury’s Hydro Generation assets along the Waikato River. In this role, you’ll be central to the testing and commissioning of our plant, ensuring our assets are compliant, reliable and aligned with regulatory standards.

This is a hands-on, varied position where you’ll collaborate closely with maintenance, engineering, and site teams. As Mercury evolves, you’ll have access to meaningful development opportunities, career progression pathways, and the flexibility to balance work and life, along with overtime at 1.5x when additional work arises.

Reporting to the Turnaround Delivery Lead - Hydro, you’ll be part of a wider team responsible for the health of our assets along the Waikato River. This role also includes a vehicle for travel between sites.


Tāu e mahi ai | What you'll be doing:

Maintaining generation assets in line with Mercury policies, industry practices and regulatory requirements
Working closely with key stakeholders including site leads, engineering teams, and maintenance crews
Recording and reporting all testing outcomes with accuracy in the CMMS
Interpreting test results and producing clear, timely reporting for internal stakeholders
Staying current with industry standards and best practice to support compliance and continuous improvement
Identifying opportunities for cost-effective optimisation of plant performance
Undertaking routine and defect maintenance to ensure protection systems remain safe and reliable

Tāu ka kawe mai | What you'll bring:

A recognised electrical qualification and current EWRB practising licence
New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Supply (Power Technician) Level 5, or at least 3 years’ experience in HV control and protection testing (technicians with higher relevant education and EWRB registration will also be considered)
Strong knowledge of protection systems and associated testing
Experience with HV testing tools such as Testrano, MPD Online/Offline PD, IRIS Online PD, DIRANA, MIT Series HV PI/IR, CMC Relay and SVERKER test sets, SFRA, Fluke process calibrators, multimeters, and clamp meters
5–8 years’ relevant experience in plant operations, process control or heavy industry maintenance
Experience with geothermal or hydro generation assets is desirable
